Wastewater Substation
The planning board will hold a “site plan review by special permit” hearing on Aug. 28 for the town’s new wastewater substation, which will be built on the soccer field just south of Route 6 and north of the town cemetery.
A new soccer field is included in the Motta Field redevelopment plan that is now under construction, and sewer leaching fields that underlie the current soccer field are also being relocated to Motta Field.
The town’s contractors submitted 150 pages of detailed plans for the new substation, which will consist of two buildings, each about 100 feet long, with paved vehicle access on all sides. Construction is expected to begin next spring and last about two and a half years, DPW Director Jim Vincent told the select board in July.
The entire $75-million sewer expansion project, including the new substation, was supposed to be financed by “betterment” fees on new users, the Cape Cod and Islands Water Protection Fund, and by other state and federal funds. An increase in costs of up to $10 million could require some other financing options to be put on the table, Vincent told the board last month. —Paul Benson
