Truro’s Median Income
The Truro Municipal Affordable Housing Trust should support people making less than or equal to the town’s median income, the housing authority said in a presentation given to the select board on June 24. But no one knows what Truro’s median income is.
“All the figures for Truro are really difficult, particularly by national but even state figures because it’s such a small town,” said housing authority member Betty Gallo.
For planning purposes, the housing authority is using the federal figures for area median income set annually by the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development based on census data for all of Barnstable County. Those figures for last year put the median household income at $122,700 for a family of four.
“I don’t think that really tells the story,” Truro select board member John Dundas said.
Census data showing median household income by town are available on the Cape Cod Commission website, though they are based on the census’s American Community Survey from 2023.
Lifeguard Shortage
Truro has a lifeguard shortage, according to acting Town Manager Kelly Clark. “For right now, we cannot staff the Head of the Meadow Beach on Mondays,” Clark told the select board at its June 24 meeting. Lifeguard applications can be sent to [email protected]. —Lauren Hakimi
