Reorganizing the Board
The annual town election means a bit of reshuffling on the select board.
Sue Areson and John Dundas were re-elected to their third and second three-year terms, respectively, on May 13 and met with Sue Girard-Irwin, Nancy Medoff, and Stephanie Rein the next day. Among their first tasks was electing new officers.
Areson said she would be happy to serve as chair for another year. “I don’t think it’s a lifetime appointment here,” she said. “I’m open to any suggestions.”
None came, and the board unanimously re-elected her. Dundas used the moment to praise Areson’s reappointment as a “good indication” of the “tone, tenor, temperament, climate, and success of this board.”
Dundas, who did not seek re-election last year when his first term expired, added that the 2024 additions of Girard-Irwin and Medoff pointed to “the direction this board should be going.”
Dundas said that while he was willing to serve in any officer role, the newer members should take the lead. He nominated Girard-Irwin as vice chair, and Medoff seconded. Before the vote, Girard-Irwin and Medoff said they had no strong preferences about which positions they should hold.
“Either one of you would be great,” said Areson.
The board unanimously made Girard-Irwin vice chair and Medoff clerk. —Aden Choate
