When Nature Calls You
It’s that time of year again: the birds and the bees are busy, and suddenly your back yard looks like a live-action Disney movie — until something tiny, trembling, and possibly dying shows up on your doorstep.
If you’ve ever cradled a baby bird, tiny skunk, or orphaned bunny in your hands at 7 a.m. — unshowered, half-caffeinated, and full of dread — you likely haven’t forgot the feeling. Likewise, if you’ve googled “what do baby raccoons eat” while trying to turn a shoebox into a miniature ICU.
Amy Sanders of Wild Care, a nonprofit wildlife hospital in Eastham that treats over 1,800 sick or injured creatures annually, knows those feelings and is giving a talk to help you through them at the Truro Public Library at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 15.
Subjects include when to intervene, when to just back away, and when to call for help.
Come for the woodland drama; stay for the advice that might keep you from naming a chipmunk Kevin and building him an illegal ADU.
For people who can’t attend the event, Wild Care also maintains a helpline at 508-240-2255. —Aden Choate
