Truro Talks, Townspeople Listen
Truro residents are mostly happy with town services, but not with the town’s communications.
That was the main takeaway when Communications Coordinator and Public Information Officer Katie Riconda presented the results of the town’s first community satisfaction survey to the select board on April 22.
The 20-question survey was completed by 513 residents between July and September 2024. They rated the quality, accessibility, and cost of town services. The majority of responses were positive, with most people reporting being “very satisfied,” “satisfied,” or “neutral” about what town departments do.
Riconda’s report said the survey was not designed to compare departments, but the Truro Public Library, perhaps predictably, got more praise than others. The worst? Residents called the town website “awful.” (A website redesign is scheduled for June.)
There were kudos for the monthly newsletter and online bill pay, and requests included Monday office hours for the treasurer’s office, easier permitting, clearer tax policies, and a dog park.
Riconda said she thinks “neutral” ratings reflect residents’ lack of direct experience with certain departments rather than dissatisfaction. She recommended repeating the survey in future years to measure progress.
