Conversation Starters
Coastal Resiliency
The coastal resiliency plan outreach meeting that had been scheduled for April 17 has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 1 at 3 p.m. at town hall, according to Community Development Director Tim Famulare.
The session should run from 3 to 6 p.m. and will allow participants to learn more about coastal flooding adaptation measures that can be taken by individual homeowners, small groups of affected neighbors, and the town itself.
Historic Design Standards
An item in the capital improvement plan approved by town meeting voters on April 7 could bring changes to decisions made at the historic district commission. A $50,000 allocation in Article 16-2 would pay for a consultant who could help the commission review its policies and adopt new design guidelines or regulations.
Petitioned Article 22, which was brought by voter Jon Sinaiko and which passed with only a few votes against, asked the town manager and select board to direct the historic district commission to allow fire resistant materials including fiber-cement siding and artificial slate shingles in the historic district.
Although that article was nonbinding, the new consultant could help the commission work through the feedback from town meeting voters and determine whether any such materials could be compatible with its overall mission. —Paul Benson
