Conversation Starters
Pre-Town Meeting
A warmup for the May 5 annual town meeting will be held on April 22. The purpose of the pre-town meeting forum is to make sure voters understand what they’re being asked to vote on, said Town Moderator Scott Kerry: “It’s not to debate the merits of the articles.”
Kerry told the select board at its April 7 meeting that this year the eight Community Preservation Act articles will be voted on one by one. Last year, voters were asked to approve all of them combined, and that ended up being confusing, Kerry said.
The CPA articles include renovations at the thrift shop at 580 Massasoit Road to create two year-round rental apartments, purchase of open space along Deacon Paine Road to protect a freshwater pond, and the construction of two trailhead information kiosks at Wiley Park.
Rabies Clinic
Eastham is holding a rabies clinic on Sunday, April 13 at the Eastham Veterinary Hospital from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., said Natural Resources Foreman and Animal Control Officer Stephanie Sykes. Vaccines cost $20; they are free for dogs whose owners are members of the Eastham Dog Owners’ Association.
Out of This World
This year’s Windmill Weekend festivities are officially scheduled for Sept, 5-7, according to committee president Gergana Aleksieva. The theme, she told the select board at its April 7 meeting, is “Out of This World.” The board also approved two one-day liquor licenses for the festival’s beer garden. —Parker Mumford
