Climate and Hazard Mitigation Plans
At the Energy and Climate Action Committee’s Feb. 10 meeting, vice chair Roberta Longley told the group that the town’s hazard mitigation plan needs an update this year, and that the committee would be joining in the work on it.
The plan, which must be sent to the Mass. Emergency Management Agency as well as to FEMA for approval every five years, was last revised in 2020.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to learn more about the hazard mitigation plan,” Longley said, and to integrate it with the town’s climate action plan.
Hazard mitigation plans try to reduce economic, social, and environmental losses from natural disasters like storms. Eastham’s focuses on outreach to educate residents and help them prepare. Meanwhile, the climate action committee has been planning its own outreach on electric vehicles and renewable energy for homes. —Parker Mumford
