Wellness Walking
The Eastham Senior Center started its weekly wellness walking club on Sept. 13. The club explores local trails with the guidance of Kristen Siminski, a Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod physical therapist. A park ranger is along to provide information about the locations the walkers explore.
The wellness walking club’s meetings begin as the tourist season slows down, Siminski said, when “people need more social connection.”
At the beginning of each walk, Siminski will briefly speak on one of six pillars of wellness, which will become a focus of that day’s walk. According to Siminski, the pillars are social connection, sleep, nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and avoidance of risky substances.
The club meets on Fridays from 9 to 10 a.m. and is open to Outer Cape residents 65 and older. Walkers must call the VNA at 508-957-7423 to sign up. —Parker Mumford
