New Members for Ad Hoc Committee
The select board on Sept. 10 interviewed four applicants for vacant seats on the ad hoc building committee for the future public works facility: Brian Boyle, Robert Panessiti, Douglas Rose, and Anastasia Song.
The board highlighted financial management expertise as a key skill, as it could help guide the development of the DPW plan and keep the cost under control.
Song fit the bill. Along with her other experience, she chaired the finance committee of the board of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, where she worked as commissioner.
“I truly did not believe Anastasia’s resume was real, particularly the combination of finance and construction engineering,” said board member Nancy Medoff.
Medoff, Susan Areson, Stephanie Rein, and Susan Girard-Irwin voted to appoint Song as a full member of the committee; Bob Weinstein abstained.
For the alternate seat, the board considered Boyle and Panessiti. Rein and Weinstein said they preferred Panessiti.
“He has been involved in the oversight of other municipal projects, and I think that would be very useful,” said Weinstein. “Plus, he has not been engaged in putting forward fantasy numbers that the community was burdened with.”
Areson and Medoff said they would support either Boyle or Panessiti. “I recognize the work Brian has done,” said Areson.
The board unanimously voted to appoint Panessiti as the alternate member. Both appointments will expire on June 30, 2025. —Aden Choate
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article, published in print on Sept. 12, erroneously attributed a quotation about Anastasia Song’s resume to Susan Areson instead of Nancy Medoff. Also, it was Stephanie Rein, not Susan Girard-Irwin, who, along with Bob Weinstein, said she preferred Robert Panessiti’s candidacy for an alternate seat on the ad hoc committee.
