Conversation Starters
Thrift Shop Renovation
The community preservation committee voted to recommend an article funding the exterior renovation of the Council on Aging thrift shop at 580 Massasoit Road. That place was built in 1879 by Arthur H. Cobb and operated as a general store. It was purchased by the town in 2022 for $450,000 and is expected to be used for affordable housing as well as to preserve the thrift shop. It currently has two potentially habitable units.
The draft Article 8C proposes $740,000 in renovations, including replacing the aluminum siding with “materials more in keeping with the original,” replacing windows, creating walkways and parking, improving accessibility, and renovating the front porch and front exterior.
The funds for the renovation would come from the Community Preservation Fund’s undesignated fund balance.
Town Meeting on the Turf
Eastham’s town meeting will be held on Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. on the Nauset football field, with a rain date of May 5. The town will offer shuttles to take voters from the parking area to the field. As has been the case since 2015, electronic voting will be used at the meeting. —Olivia Oldham
