Pickleball Returns to Motta
The repaving, sealing, and repainting of the Motta Field tennis courts was completed ahead of schedule due to unseasonably warm temperatures at the end of October, town staff told the select board last week.
The three tennis courts now include one that is striped only for tennis and two that are also striped into two pickleball courts each. (A pickleball court is half the size of a tennis court.)
The times for pickleball play have been set by the recreation commission so that either the Nickerson Street courts or the Motta Field courts will be available every day between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., with evening hours extended to 6 or 7 p.m. in the summer. Play alternates throughout the day so that each court is available for pickleball either in the morning or in the afternoon but never all day. The Veterans Memorial Community Center also has one court available from 3:15 p.m. until dusk on weekdays and 8 a.m. until dusk on weekends.
Library Seeks Gardeners
The Crop Swap program, a collaboration between the town’s health dept. and library that helps makes fresh vegetables and fruits available for free year-round, is seeking more volunteers to help with its new tower gardens at the library. The five-foot-tall towers accommodate a form of hydroponic gardening.
Volunteering involves scheduled visits to the two towers in the library to check the pH, fill the tanks with water and nutrients as needed, and harvest the crops. No gardening experience is required. Those interested should contact Donna Cooper at [email protected]. —Paul Benson
Cruiser Crash: Don’t Ask
Provincetown Police Chief Jim Golden announced that one of his officers crashed into trees on the roadside at 11:38 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 13 while driving north on Race Point Road.
Conditions were wet following heavy rain, and the vehicle hydroplaned, he wrote in his announcement. Golden added that the officer was taken by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital and released. The accident is under investigation by Sgt. Kevan Spoor, the chief said.
Despite repeated requests, Golden would not release the name of the officer, disclose the amount or extent of damage to the cruiser, or provide an estimated speed of travel. He would also not provide a reason for withholding the information. —K.C. Myers
