WELLFLEET — Children lined up to learn about all things firefighting at the Wellfleet Fire Dept.’s open house on Oct. 8. Lieutenant Shaw Clark worked with fellow firefighters to give visitors an up-close view of a fire engine, practice spraying a hose, and the chance to learn about lifesaving equipment, including a new UTV — a utility terrain vehicle that can be used to rescue people from remote areas.
“It’s nice, as a new guy, to meet the community,” said Ernie Cox, the department’s newest recruit, as he helped handle one of the most popular demonstrations of the day, the firehose. —Abraham Storer
