All Sorts of Shorts (Thursday, Sept. 22-Saturday, Sept. 24)
Wellfleet Preservation Hall hosts the 2022 Manhattan Short Film Festival from Sept. 22 to 24. The program includes screenings of 10 new films from around the world; the audience helps decide the winner. Screenings begin at 6 p.m. (2 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday). On Hopper (Thursday, Sept. 22)
Filmmaker Johnny Bergmann’s In the Light, a documentary about Edward Hopper’s life and continuing influence on artists and creators, will be screened at the Wellfleet Public Library on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6:30 p.m. The film is presented by ArtsLight, an advocacy organization for Cape Cod’s creative economy. Meet the shellfishermen of OysterFest and other people for whom Wellfleet oysters provide a livelihood at the Wellfleet Public Library on Friday, Sept. 23 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Admission is free, but seating is limited and masks are required.
Party Animals (Friday, Sept. 23)
Payomet Performing Arts Center is throwing a fall equinox party on Friday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. with performances by local bands Woof Woof Meow and Blu Central. The event is free.

Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary opens its newly completed play area on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kids (and adults) can complete a nature activity to earn a free treat from the Good Times Cape Cod ice cream truck. The event will also include storybook readings by authors Alice Iacuessa (Herring River Adventure) and Barbara Brennessel (Allie the Alewife). The event is free. The Cape Cod National Seashore hosts the Cape Cod Astronomical Society for its first Dark Sky Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Salt Pond Visitor Center Auditorium. The day-into-night event will feature presentations from physicists, astronomers, and astro-photographers and a star viewing party in the evening at the Marconi Beach parking lot. Filmmaker Anne Makepeace’s festival award-winning We Still Live Here will be screened at the Wellfleet Public Library on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. The film, which tells the story of cultural revival by the Wampanoag of Southeastern Massachusetts, will be followed by a discussion with Wampanoag historian and educator Linda Coombs. Turning the Page (Thursday, Sept. 29)
Local author Jeannette de Beauvoir leads a “Literature of AIDS” seminar at the Provincetown Public Library on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 6 to 7:45 p.m. The seminar will continue on Thursdays through Nov. 17.
