Next Steps for Nauset High
The $131.8-million renovation of Nauset Regional High School is projected to begin in the fall and, so far, there have been over 100 accepted sub-bids, Eastham Town Administrator Jacqui Beebe said during the July 11 select board meeting.
The deadline for bid submissions has been extended to the first week in August.
“If all goes well and we accept a bid, and it comes in under budget, then we start construction in the fall,” said Beebe. “The kids would start school in September, and then move into portable classrooms towards the end of the year, probably around Christmas break.”
In the meantime, throughout the months of July and August, extensive site work is underway in preparation for the installation of the portable classrooms. Site work addresses plumbing and electrical infrastructure as well as the logistics of hooking up all portable classrooms to Eastham’s public water system.
The portable classrooms are set to arrive in late August, according to Beebe.
“The portables are extremely deluxe,” she told the select board on Monday night. “They have bathrooms. They even have sprinkler systems.”
Construction of temporary parking, demolition of some of the existing buildings, and installation of a new septic system and subsurface drainage will take place over the next two years, according to the Nauset Schools website. Then there is a Phase 2 and a Phase 3, involving construction of new classroom wings and renovation of Buildings A, B, C, D and F.
The whole project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025. —Isabelle Nobili
