Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, July 12 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
A Pacific Loon continued in East Harbor in North Truro this week and a King Eider was at Nauset Beach on July 6. Both species are essentially unheard of here in summer.
Sightings at Race Point in Provincetown included a Little Gull, a Parasitic Jaeger, 17 Lesser Black-Backed Gulls, 16 Wilson’s Storm-Petrels, 3,200 Cory’s Shearwaters, 700 Great Shearwaters, 150 Sooty Shearwaters, and 5 Manx Shearwaters.
Single in Provincetown this week: a Bobolink and a Hooded Merganser.
There were 4 Yellow-Crowned Night-Herons in Eastham.
