Cocaine and Bill Evaul Prints
The Bill Evaul Gallery at 359 Commercial St. in Provincetown will celebrate Thanksgiving weekend with two receptions.
The first, on Friday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m., will be an opening for “Provincetown Icons,” a series of white line print portraits by Evaul of artists and playwrights associated with the town: Eugene O’Neill, Susan Glaspell, Blanche Lazzell, and Tennessee Williams, to name a few.
The second, on Saturday, Nov. 30, at 6 p.m., will be a dramatic reading by the Heritage Theatre of Provincetown of Pendleton King’s 1917 play, Cocaine. First performed by the Provincetown Players in Greenwich Village in New York City, Cocaine is a drama with themes of drug addiction, male and female prostitution, and venereal disease. It will be directed by Stuard Derrick, artistic director of the Heritage Theatre and the associate director of the Evaul Gallery, and introduced by Sam Tager.
Both events are free and open to the public, but each night a set of three glicée prints by Evaul of the Provincetown Players’ founders (O’Neill, Glaspell, and George Cram Cook) will be auctioned to benefit the Heritage Theatre.
