This year’s Lighting Ceremony of the Pilgrim Monument kicks off the one-year countdown to Provincetown 400’s fireworks show, which commemorates the anniversary of the Mayflower’s first landing in 1620 and the history and culture of the Wampanoag people. Join the crowds at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum, 1 High Pole Hill Road. Free.
Wednesday, Nov. 27, 7 p.m.
“Thanksgiving Dinner Redux,” a lecture with Robert Ware of the Center for Coastal Studies at Napi’s Restaurant at 7 Freeman Place in Provincetown, will explore the first Thanksgiving dinner menu. Come early (5 p.m.) and have dinner.
Thursday, Nov. 28, 9 a.m.
It’s a Thanksgiving tradition: the Provincetown Pilgrim 5K Trot benefits Helping Our Women. Runners, walkers, strollers, pets — all are welcome. Early bird registration ($30) is at 7:30 a.m. The trot begins at the Sandcastle Resort at 929 Commercial St. in Provincetown. The first male and female finishers will receive $100 cash prizes. Bring a protein canned food for Soup Kitchen in Provincetown (SKIP).
Friday, Nov. 29, 4 p.m.
There are 150 wildlife-themed artworks, all 5 by 7 inches and $75, along with 50 birdhouses for sale at the Art Scramble, a fund-raiser for WildCare wildlife clinic. A reception begins at 4 p.m. at Chapel in the Pines, 220 Samoset Road in Eastham, then scramblers let loose at 5:30 p.m. at Eastham Public Library at 190 Samoset Road.

Nothing says Christmas in Provincetown better than the Lobster Pot Tree Lighting in Lopes Square. This pyramidal construction is a beautiful tribute the town’s fishing roots. Free.

The AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod is hosting a Candlelight Vigil in recognition of World AIDS Day. Start with a reception at the ASGCC Drop-in Center at 148a Commercial St., then walk to the Provincetown AIDS Memorial at Town Hall. All are welcome.

Poet Neil Silberblatt is the featured artist at Coffeehouse at the Mews, 429 Commercial St. in Provincetown. The open mic night is hosted by Peter Donnelly. A $5 donation benefits WOMR and the Provincetown Theater.
