The Salty Market Farmstand
At the March 8 select board meeting, Ellery Althaus, the former owner of the Salty Market, transferred the business alcohol license to Liam Luttrell Rowland, who’ll turn the 2 Highland Road corner grocery and package store into the Salty Market Farmstand.
Rowland has racked up more than 20 years of experience in the food business. He helped start Blackfish with Eric Jansen, and years ago he was on the “original team” at Terra Luna restaurant, he told the select board. More recently, he was the executive chef at Spindler’s in Provincetown.
Looking ahead, Rowland hopes the Salty Market Farmstand can play a role in “getting the community farm food at an affordable price in a beautiful setting,” he told the select board.
Bob Weinstein, the chair, thanked Althaus and his wife, Claire Adams, for their time running the Salty Market, which he called “a real asset to the village of North Truro.”
Althaus and Adams, meanwhile, are in the process of setting up Bagel Hound, which will be right next to JB’s Pizza Bar & Grill on Route 6 in Wellfleet. While the pair have moved their business to the next town, bagels can still be had at the Salty Market Farmstand. “They may be made and boiled in Wellfleet,” Althaus told the board, “but they’ll be there.” —Jasmine Lu
