Sallyanne Austin (left) of Nantucket and Helena Gomes of Stoughton leave brunch on Bradford Street in Provincetown, warmed by their faux leopard-print coats and hats, on a cold late February day.
“We always dress like this,” they both swear. “Everyone thinks we are a couple, but we’re just friends,” Austin adds.
Austin owns a salon on Nantucket where she developed Nantucket Nail Polish — a line that includes colors inspired by Provincetown. The two come to Provincetown regularly for inspiration.
“We grew up together on Nantucket,” Gomes says, “and even in high school we always dressed funky and fashionable. We had a faux leopard thing, and it’s not over. Never!”
In Provincetown, they say, it feels right to dress up. “But we will dress this way and go to Walmart, too,” says Gomes.
