Spring at Bakker Auctions
Bakker Auctions will hold its spring fine arts auction on Saturday, March 12 beginning at 1 p.m.
Women artists are well represented in the 145 lots, with vivid work by Margaret J. Patterson, Mary Locke Brewer, Florence Bach, Rose Basile, Pat de Groot, Susan Jane Belton, Anne Bosworth Greene, Mary Hackett, Anne Packard, TJ Walton, Jane Winter, and Shirley Pell Yater.
Works by other Provincetown artists include a landscape by Gerrit Beneker; a 1939 painting of Bradford Street by Ross Moffett; and work by Peter Busa, Arthur Cohen, Arthur Diehl, John Grillo, Karl Knaths, William H. Littlefield, Ray Nolin, and Sol Wilson.

Week Three of Lifetime Learning
Lifetime Learning continues this week at Snow Library, 67 Main St. in Orleans.
On Tuesday, March 15, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, artist Richard Perry presents a one-class course: “Seeing Is Believing: The Art of Looking at Art.” Then, from 1:30 to 3 p.m., singer-songwriter David Roth teaches “Music That Washed Ashore,” a one-class Zoom-only course.
On Wednesdays beginning March 16, 1:30 to 3 p.m., Katherine Dowd Gulotta teaches “Souls of Black Folk: Changing the Narrative.” This three-class course will include discussions of critical race theory; the Black Lives Matter movement; and the work of Stacey Abrams, Derrick Bell, Sherrilyn A. Ifill, and bell hooks.
Enrollment is capped at 40 in person but is unlimited via Zoom. Registration is by $10 suggested donation per course at friendsofsnowlibrary.org.
Summer at the Art House
The Provincetown Art House has announced its 2022 summer season, which kicks off on Memorial Day weekend with Zoë Lewis on May 27 and 28 and the return of Melissa Ferrick on May 28.
“Broadway at the Art House” highlights include Tony Award-winners Rachel Bay Jones on June 24 and 25, Victoria Clark on July 1 and 2, Stephanie J. Block on July 7, and Donna McKechnie on July 30 and 31. Anastasia star Christy Altomare performs on July 8 and 9, Faith Prince and Jason Graae on July 17 and 18, Lillias White on Aug 12 and 13, and violinist Edmund Bagnell on Aug. 19 and 20.
A new “virtuosi series” opens with soprano Kelly Glyptis on June 23, flutist Eric Maul on July 7, pianist Alissa Leiser on July 21, cellist Daniel Lelchuk on Aug. 11, and soprano Marisol Montalvo on Sept. 8.
Audra McDonald appears at town hall on May 29, followed by RuPaul’s Drag Race champion Bianca Del Rio on July 3, Chita Rivera on Aug. 7, Sasha Velour on Aug. 14, and Jessica Vosk on Sept. 8. See provincetownarthouse.com for the full lineup.
Catherine Haynes at the Truro CoA
“Color & Light” is a show of small pastels and oil paintings by Catherine C. Haynes at the Truro Council on Aging, 7 Standish Way, running through the end of March.
Haynes draws inspiration from the Cape’s sunsets, historic houses, and marshlands. She focuses on feeling, not getting caught up in unnecessary details.
“To capture my impressions of a certain space, I will visit it repeatedly to sketch in pastel or oil paints,” says Haynes in a statement. “The light and shadows change rapidly, and I work quickly, employing little detail at that time. Once the colors of my en plein air sketch accurately convey the shifting atmosphere, I return to my studio to finish the painting.”
