It’s All About the Presentation
Barry Katz is teaching a three-part online course on “Photographing Artwork” via Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill on Sundays beginning March 6, noon to 1:30 p.m. Perfect for artists of all mediums, the course demystifies how to photograph artwork for archival, print, social media, and gallery purposes. Session one covers the basics of shooting work with a digital camera, including lighting, lens choice, focus, and exposure settings. Session two covers photographing artwork with an iPhone. Session three covers optimizing images with photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop. Registration is $395 at castlehill.org.
Week Two of Lifetime Learning
Lifetime Learning at Snow Library, 67 Main St. in Orleans, continues with a four-part Irish Film Festival beginning Monday, March 7, 1:30 to 4 p.m. The first offering is Five Minutes of Heaven (2009) starring Liam Neeson and James Nesbitt. This is followed by Falling for a Dancer (1998) on March 14 and 21, and The Quiet Man (1952) on March 28. Mary Ann Eaton, a professor of Irish and Celtic literature at University College Cork, Ireland, will discuss each film in the context of Irish history and culture. 24 Hours to Stage a Play
After a pandemic pause, the Provincetown Theater returns to its indoor stage at 238 Bradford St. with the 12-year anniversary of “The 24 Hour Plays” on Saturday, March 5 at 7 p.m., with an encore matinée on Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m.
A collaboration with the Provincetown Playwrights’ Lab, the event brings together six playwrights, six directors, and more than a dozen actors who have 24 hours to write, rehearse, stage, and perform a series of new 10-minute plays. Writers include Mary Chris, Linda Fiorella, Robert Keary, Steven Myerson, Candace Perry, and Bronwen Prosser. The plays will be produced by Nathan Butera, Dian Hamilton, and Frank Vasello, with stage management by Ellen Rubenstein. The Saturday performance will be livestreamed at provincetowntheater.org. Tickets, for in-person or livestream, are $20.
Nancy Nicol at the WACC
Wellfleet artist Nancy Nicol is showing her work at the Wellfleet Adult Community Center (formerly called the Senior Center), 715 Old Kings Highway, through March 31. Curated by Robert Rindler, the show consists of small oils of oyster shells in muted colors; selections from Nicol’s Winter in Wellfleet series of desolate snowscapes; mixed-media collages combining text, pattern, and scrapbook imagery; and abstracted maps. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
