‘Empowerment’ at the Cultural Center
Curated by recently appointed Executive Director Molly Demeulenaere, “Empowerment vs. Exploitation” opens at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, 307 Old Main St. in South Yarmouth, on Tuesday, Feb. 8 and runs through March 26.
The show, which includes 56 works from around the U.S. and Canada, tackles the big, knotty questions of gender-based inequality. “I want girls to grow up and be brave instead of perfect, to feel beautiful for being intelligent and strong,” says Demeulenaere in a statement. “I hope an exhibition experience like this will encourage people to open a dialogue, look at the world, challenge the accepted norm.”
There will be an opening reception on Friday, Feb. 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. Masks and proof of vaccination required. The Cultural Center is open Tuesday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.
