Talking Jacob Lawrence
Jul 29, 2021 | 8:00 pm
$15.00Join collector Harvey Ross and curator Lydia Gordon on Thursday, July 29 at 8 p.m. for an evening discussing the work of artist Jacob Lawrence, presented by Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill. A narrative painter rooted in the day-to-day life of Harlem, Lawrence painted about the Black struggle and the seminal history of such figures as Frederick Douglass, Toussaint Louverture, and Harriet Tubman. Using serial imagery in scenes with flat, bright colors and shapes that he called “dynamic cubism,” Lawrence’s paintings continue to resonate in the age of Black Lives Matter. Registration for this event, which will take place at the Edgewood Farm Campus, 3 Edgewood Way in Truro, is $15 at castlehill.org.
