Atkins Crowe Mayo, the newest resident of Atkins Mayo Road in Provincetown, was born at Cape Cod Hospital on July 17, 2021.
His names are family ones — his parents are Chelsea Crowe and Nathaniel Mayo. His uncle, Josiah Mayo, and his grandfather, Charles “Stormy” Mayo, both have Atkins as a middle name. Atkins’s great-grandparents, Morris and Louise Crowe, met in Provincetown in 1950 while studying painting with Hans Hofmann.
Atkins is a first grandchild for Stormy and for Laura Ludwig, who own the Cape Codder guest house in Provincetown, where Stormy is also a co-founder of the Center for Coastal Studies. Ludwig coordinates the Marine Debris and Plastics Program at the Center. Atkins’s grandparents on his mother’s side are Dana Crowe and Polly McLaughlin of Montclair, N.J.
Atkins’s mother is a licensed mental health counselor and clinician who works with children at the Latham Centers in Brewster. His father is the director of public affairs for Vineyard Wind, the offshore wind farm.
Atkins has already earned a few nicknames in a family that loves creating them. One, “teradactyl,” is based on a sound he makes when he is disgruntled. So far, he is quite content when busy with his favorite activities — sleeping and eating.
