Warren J Roderick, 72, of Truro died at his home on May 27, 2021. Born on Oct. 31, 1948 in Hyannis, he was the son of the late Warren and Marjorie Roderick of North Truro.
Growing up in Provincetown and living there for most of his life, Warren had deep roots in the gas station community. He worked with his father before establishing his own dealership and automotive business, the Pamet Mobil Center. A lifelong car enthusiast, Warren delighted in researching and discussing vehicles new and old. He was a devoted subscriber to Hemmings Motor News and always received multiple car calendars on Christmas morning.
After selling his gas station, he worked as the Truro harbormaster for several years. Known for his interesting stories and sharp wit, Warren reveled in challenging riddles and tests of the mind. He often impressed others with his skill in solving mathematical puzzles and his ability to recite the presidents in backwards order. A fan of talk radio, he possessed a breadth of knowledge on current events and political viewpoints.
Above all, Warren was deeply proud of his children and grandchildren. He applauded, encouraged, and celebrated their accomplishments, from Little League softball games to high school musicals and from graduations to career achievements.
Because his brilliant mind was enlightened by life’s joys, yet weathered by many of life’s storms, his daughters find these lines from a John Denver song, which he often played, a clear reflection of his spirit:
Now the face that I see in my mirror
More and more is a stranger to me.
More and more I can see there’s a danger
In becoming what I never thought I’d be.
Some days are diamonds, some days are stones.
Sometimes the hard times won’t leave me alone.
Sometimes a cold wind blows a chill in my bones.
Some days are diamonds, some days are stones.
Warren is survived by the mother of his children, Christine Roderick of North Truro, as well as his three daughters and their spouses: Heather and Stephen Harper of North Truro, Jan and Fran Taylor of Watertown, and Elena and Bobby Rice of Truro. He also leaves his grandchildren, Arianna and husband Josh Mayo; Brendon Kaplan of La Habras, Calif.; Brett and Bubba Kaplan of Eastham; and Brady, Merrick, and Beckett Rice of Truro; and one great-grandchild, Kaia Mayo. Warren is also survived by his sisters Marjorie Childs of North Truro and Elaine Brownell and husband Larry Brownell of North Truro, and by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Leo “Skip” Childs.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 14 at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St., Provincetown.
