Fund Set Up for Roda
Police Patrolman Thomas Roda was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident while off duty on Wednesday, May 12.
Roda, 56, was riding his own 2016 Harley Davidson at the intersection of Route 6 and Pilgrim Heights Road when the motorcycle collided with a 2012 Prius driven by Maureen Courville, 83, of Orleans, according to a press release from the Truro Police Dept.
Police and fire crews arrived at 12:11 p.m. and found Roda’s injuries to be severe enough to have him flown by Boston MedFlight to Brigham & Women’s Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain.
The hospital would provide no update on Roda’s condition.
At the Independent’s deadline, an accident investigation by the Truro Police Dept. and the Cape Cod Regional Crash Reconstruction Unit was not complete, according to Truro Deputy Chief Craig Danziger.
Roda was a paramedic-EMT for the Lower Cape Ambulance Association before joining the Truro police, where he serves as the department’s assistant court officer, motorcycle officer, and community outreach officer.
Friends have set up a relief fund for Roda and his family at Seamen’s Bank through the Provincetown Canteen Unit, which was established in 1954 to provide support for first responders in emergencies: provincetowncanteen.org. —K.C. Myers
