Conversation Starters
Covid-19 Update
As of Dec. 31, Eastham had three new cases within the preceding 14 days and 47 total cases to date, according to the Mass. Dept. of Pubic Health weekly report. No Eastham Covid-19 deaths have been reported.
‘Loud and Clear’
The select board is working to improve the town’s communication with residents and will be setting up an account with the email marketing program Constant Contact that would allow residents to sign up to receive information on topics that interest them.
“I heard you guys loud and clear,” Town Administrator Jacqui Beebe told the board, “and I totally agree that we need a more organized strategic and regular method or means to communicate things that we think are important that the community know. Not always expecting that they are going to tune in to meetings or search the website or look on the calendar or whatever.”
“For me, it was two events that led me to want to talk about this more,” said board member Jared Collins. “It was people being surprised about the Rock Harbor capital project and the building, and the proposed change in the regs for board of health for animals.”
“We’ve really tried over the years to try to get more information out,” said vice chair Aimee Eckman. “I started my whole political career filming select board meetings because they weren’t filmed. We brought a handy cam and a VCR and ran the tapes down at Comcast. It has to start somewhere. Look where we’ve come. Now we’re Zooming in the cloud.”
While the town has a Facebook page, not everyone uses Facebook, noted board member Arthur Autorino.
Constant Contact will allow the town to have separate email lists as well as send emails to everyone who signs up, noted Beebe. “I think it’s a better tool for us than just Facebook pages,” she said.
