Truro to Offer Hybrid Meetings
Like every town in the state, Truro is transitioning back to in-person meetings. Before March 2020, going to town hall or community centers was the only way to watch live meetings.
Now gadflies and interested citizens can click on Channel 18 or a hyperlink from their homes to participate in all town government meetings. It’s a different world, and town officials intend to keep it that way.
Like Provincetown and Eastham, Truro allows a hybrid of in-person and remote participation. A majority of committee members must attend in person. But others members can participate from home and the public can attend in person or participate through the town website, said Town Manager Darrin Tangeman.
Tangeman thinks it is possible for both the town hall and the community center to be outfitted with technology so remote participation can continue for the long term. Those attending meetings in person, must wear masks inside town buildings.
When do in-person meetings begin on a regular basis? That depends on what the state legislature votes in the next few days. Legislators are scrambling to finalize a package of pandemic-era policy extensions, including allowing remote-only meetings. If you want to watch a meeting in the meantime, consult the town website to see how. —K.C. Myers
