Bomb Bulletin
Just over a month after a Wellfleet man seeking to expand his driveway found nine live, extremely unstable World War I-era military explosives in the ground, there’s more explosive news from the fire department.
Just after 9 a.m. on Oct. 21, the department “received a call for a possible ordnance at 45 Pilgrim Spring Road,” according to a press release. Working with the Wellfleet police, the fire department found a single ordnance; the Mass. State Police Bomb Squad relocated it to Cahoon Hollow Beach, where it was detonated.
State police said the ordnance was from World War II.
“If anyone comes across anything that looks like it could possibly be an unexploded ordnance or explosive device,” wrote Capt. Joseph Cappello in his press release, “immediately call public safety officials so they can determine what it is and safely dispose of it.” —Josephine de La Bruyère
