Conversation Starters
Times They Are a-Changing
On Tuesday, June 1, Provincetown Town Hall, the public library, and other town buildings will re-open to the public. Only the senior center will continue to avoid in-person programming through June.
On Tuesday, May 25, Provincetown became the first Outer Cape town to announce summer re-opening plans. As of the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday night, Truro, Wellfleet, and Eastham officials still had not finalized how and when they will welcome the public back to libraries and town halls now that pandemic restrictions are being lifted by Gov. Charlie Baker.
In Provincetown, town hall will be open to the public Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Town hall employees are also available by appointment five days a week.
Starting June 1, the library will be open to the public Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m. You can still do curbside pickup during “regular hours” (Mondays and Fridays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays 1 to 5 p.m.).
The Veterans Memorial Community Center, which houses the senior center and depts. of recreation and public works, will also open June 1, Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At the Council on Aging, however, staff will continue “essential services and virtual programming” through June. According to the town website, “The staff is planning for a gradual resumption of indoor programming.”
No masks are required in town buildings for those who are fully vaccinated, according to Provincetown’s website. —K.C. Myers
