Residents of Provincetown, Truro, and Wellfleet who wish to claim the residential tax exemption (RTE) on their fiscal 2021 property tax bills must submit applications with supporting documents to their respective town assessors’ offices by Thursday, April 1.
To qualify for the exemption for the current fiscal year, property owners must have owned and occupied the home as their principal residence as of Jan. 1, 2020. Owners of properties in a trust must provide a copy of the recorded trust or trustee’s certificate stating that the owner is a trustee and has a beneficial interest in the trust.
The exemption amount is equal to 25 percent of the median assessed residential property value in Provincetown. In Truro and Wellfleet, the amount is equal to 20 percent of the median value.
