Open House at the Police Station
The Eastham Police Dept. is holding an outdoor open house on Saturday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a dedication ceremony at 11 a.m. for the department’s new police motorcycle.
“We haven’t had a lot of opportunities in the last year to freely interact with people [due to Covid], so we’re trying to kind of break through that,” said Police Chief Adam Bohannon.
The department took delivery of the Harley Davidson motorcycle, leased through a donation from the family of the late Gunther J. Klink, last month.
Several officers will be on hand to speak with the public and answer questions about the department, said Bohannon, including Officer Jacob McGrath, who will be patrolling on the Harley after completing a week-long police motorcycle training program this month.
Visitors can check out recent renovations to the station, including the new communications center, the first-year purchase from the $400,000 recurring capital plan fund approved by last September’s town meeting.
“We’ll give small group tours of the station as people feel comfortable, and we’ll take the necessary precautions for that,” said Bohannon. “If people don’t want to come inside, that’s fine, too. We can talk outside.”
Weather permitting, most of the event will be held outside behind the police station. —Linda Culhane
